From the President's Office
Hello, and welcome to the United Way of Washtenaw County web site.
United Way of Washtenaw County is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. We think we can all agree that these are the building blocks for a good life - a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health.
Our goal is to create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from happening in the first place. Our vision for Washtenaw County in the next three years is bold and includes funding for five key areas:
- An early childhood care and education initiative that will improve the availability and quality of needed early care and childhood resources.
- A shelter and housing plan that will increase supply and improve access to decent, affordable housing and provide emergency, transitional, and permanent housing.
- A county-wide food provider network that will improve the systemic coordination and efficiency of the food collection and distribution efforts.
- An aging in place initiative that will ensure basic needs resources are available to support the independence and safety of older adults and their caregivers.
- An access to health care initiative that will increase the number of children and families who have access to and receive health care.
By aligning our funding in support of these initiatives, by demonstrating leadership on these issues in the community, and by collaborating with both public and private organizations as well as concerned individuals, United Way of Washtenaw County will make meaningful improvements in all of these areas. We invite you to monitor our progress. And more importantly, we invite you to join our effort. Your volunteer time and talent are always welcome at United Way of Washtenaw County. Please enjoy the web site, and please consider becoming part of this exciting work.
